Macula Risk Testing is now available! Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in Americans age 65 and older. Macular Degeneration is influenced by both genetic and enviromental factors. If you have early to moderate macular degeneration, Macula Risk Testing can determine your risk for vision loss due to your genetics. Those with high risk for vision loss need to have their eye health monitored more frequently. More frequent monitoring leads to early detection of change, and early treatment allows for better visual outcomes in this disease process.
Miamisburg Vision Care is happy to offer MacuHealth nutritional supplement! Nutritional supplements can slow down or even, in some cases, reverse changes in the macula in those people affected by macular degeneration. Lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin are carotenoids that naturally occur in the human retina, specifically in the macula. Research shows that while lutein and zeaxanthin surround the macula, meso-zeaxanthin is the at the highest concentration in the center of the macula. Most commercially available supplements contain lutein and zeaxanthin, but not meso-zeaxanthin. MacuHealth contains all three of these carotenoids, and comes in an easy to swallow dose: one a day sofgel. If you are at risk for, or have macular degeneration, ask us about MacuHealth!
