Sun Glasses
We all know what the right pair of sunglasses can do for your overall look, but sunglasses are much more than just a fashion statement. Sunglasses can enhance your visual performance during certain activites, such as driving, golfing or fishing. Sunglasses are also important for protecting your overall eye health from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Visual Enhancement
In the past, only people with "good vision" had the luxury of being able to wear sunglasses. But with recent innovations, we can offer the option of sunglasses to almost everyone and can recommend a lens appropriate for nearly any activity. Transitions lenses are a top choice for those people who want their everyday glasses and sunglasses all in one pair.
*Transition lenses darken in response to sunlight and are ideal for people who ride a motorcycle or spend a lot of time between indoor and outdoor situations.
*Polarized lenses reduce glare from the surface of water, snow, and roads which makes this type of lens ideal for driving, fishing, or boating.
*The SolFx Transition lens is a new and exciting product for golfers. The SolFx Transition is a sunglass that darkens even further in bright light. The color and optics of this lens makes it ideal for reading the green while golfing.
Any of these options can be made with or without a prescription. Ask our staff which sunglass lens is right for you! As always, if you purchase a pair of glasses at our office, you qualify for 50% off the second complete pair within one month of the original purchase.
Eye Health Considerations
When choosing a pair of sunglasses to protect your eye health, it is crucial that the lens offers 100% UVA and UVB protection. UV rays can affect both the outside and inside of the eye. Sun damage may lead to skin wrinkles or even types of skin cancer on the eyelids. Tissue growth may occur on the white part of the eye. UV light can accelerate cataract formation and can increase the risk of macular degeneration, a devastating eye disease that causes loss of central vision later in life. Transitions, polarized, and the SolFx lens all offer protection from the sun's UV rays.
It is also important to consider the size of your sunglasses. Many people choose a frame for their sunglasses that is a little larger than their everyday glasses. Our staff can show you a variety of frame shapes and styles to maximize coverage of your eyes.
Since children's eyes are unable to filter the sun's harmful rays, it is important to protect their eyes with sunglasses just as you would protect their skin with sunblock. Early protection of your child's eyes with sunglasses may benefit their eye health as they age. Our office carries several styles of sunglasses for infants and children.
Of course we recommend everyone wear their sunglasses on a bright sunny day, but in winter it is important to protect your eyes from glare and UV light that reflects off of snow. Ultraviolet rays can reach your eyes even on a cloudy day, so it is good to wear your sunglasses every day, all year long!
